Welcome to the Tarheel State!
This is the WWW home of the
Triangle
Friends of SETI@home.
We're small in number but powerful in our desire to help
SETI@home
to be a success! If you live in the Triangle area of North Carolina,
feel free to join our team! (And even if you aren't, how could we stop
you?! :^<)
The Triangle Cities, Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, are so named due
to their geographic relation to one another. Also, since 1960,
we have the Research Triangle Park to thank for national and international
fame (and confusion as to the origin of our name). The Triangle
is one of the fastest growing and highest tech. areas in the southeast (or,
for that matter, the entire) United States. Now, if we could just get
everyone in the Triangle to use
SETI@home
for their screen savers ...
While you're bouncing around the World Wide Web, you might want to look
in on another Triangle resident and SETI@home enthusiast,
Dr. Lars Nyland. The last time I checked, he's
in the top six thousandth of one percent of
SETI@home users!
There's a high-speed floating-point parallel multi-processor system at the
UNC-Chapel Hill Dept. of Computer Science
where Lars is using
SETI@home
as the processors' "idle" task! What my 200MHz Pentium MMX
performs in more than thirty hours, takes one of its processors
just under four hours and ten minutes!
(Wouldn't it have been great
if we could have gotten him on the TriFoS team! Oh, well. :^<)
Check back here for more news and links to SETI, radio astronomy,
the Triangle, its cities and North Carolina as I build this site!
Y'all* come back now! Ya hear?!
* Y'all is plural!
